Architectural Details in the Flags and Banquets Halls

Both the Banquets and Flags Hall have floors made out of different types of wood such as: lignum vitae, calycophyllum, and mahogany. All of them were brought from the jungles up in the north of Guatemala. The ceilings have details made with leaves of gold and are decorated with hand-made Spanish ceiling mudéjar-style carpentry, also known as “artesonado”

If you ever had visited the Modern Art Museum “Carlos Merida” this type of ceiling might be familiar to you. The ceiling found there is another example of artesonado, such as the one we can appreciate in this hall.
